Our day started with a welcome from our Chairperson Mr. Tom Rodgers .He thanked the attendees for braving the very inclement weather and explained how our day would progress. Our first speaker Mr.Thomas Sharkey, a school Principal, outlined how schools can support their students taking the LCA Programme and how teachers can be helped to deliver a great Programme.

Mr. David Power, a former LCA student spoke about the benefits of the Programme and how it helped him on the way to achieve his full potential.

Ms.Louise O Reilly, Education officer with the NCCA, spoke about the ongoing review of the LCA module descriptors in three modules offered on the Programme.

After our coffee-break, Mr.Brian Comerford spoke about using ICT and Social Media in the LCA classroom. This was an interactive session.

Our key-note speaker was Mr.John Doran. John spoke about the topic of Resilience, Wellbeing and strategies to help maximise our student’s performance.

After lunch, we were addressed by Mary Mitchell O Connor, Minister of State at The Department of Education and Skills. She fully supports the Programme and presented the awards to students who received the highest grades in The Leaving Cert Applied exam 2017. These awards are very generously supported and sponsored by Mr.Feargal Quinn.

Our last speaker of the day was MS. Denise Mc Carthy , IBEC, who provided us with a very comprehensive update on apprenticeships open to our students.

Our day concluded with a Q/A session, distribution of resources and our AGM.

“ a great experience, well worth coming, the best conference I ever attended, brilliant speakers, well done to all “.

These are just some of the very positive comments received from those who attended our conference and awards on Saturday 25th November 2017. Over 65 people braved the elements to attend and were not disappointed. As usual we received first class service from The Athlone Springs Hotel. Our speakers were engaging, interesting and relevant. We are already looking forward to next years conference.

Leaving Cert Applied Task Day Saturday , 16th September 2017 Athlone Springs Hotel

This was an extremely successful day and was attended by over 85 participants, excluding the organising committee. The morning started with a welcome address by our Chairperson Tom Rodgers , who gave an overview of the Leaving Cert Applied Programme and of the Tasks involved.

The group then divided into 4 different rooms where all of the Tasks were catered for a. General Education, b. Specialisms, c. VPG , d. Personal Reflection and Practical Achievement. The presentations were given by experienced LCA teachers, Co-ordinators and correctors of LCA Tasks.

Participants were able to attend three workshops and the feedback was very positive. People who had attended our workshops before stated how worthwhile our Task day is and that they too had learned something new. A criticism was that some participants would have liked even more time to discuss their concerns with the presenters.

The hotel proved not only to be a very accessible venue, but the service we received and the food that was provided was rated very highly in our evaluation forms. A big Thank You to the Athlone Springs Hotel.

This event has proven to be very successful and a  necessary support to those who find themselves anchoring Tasks.

A steady stream of interested persons visited the LCANA stand at the Feilte 2015 in the RDS.

This was an ideal venue to showcase and continue to promote Leaving Cert Applied and in some cases, to introduce people to the programme. LCANA had personnel on hand to meet and greet while informative presentations kept the stand visually attractive.

Many people availed of the opportunity to pick up our information pack including the new up to date LCA flyer for 2015

LCANA Workshop

The seven Leaving Certificate Applied Tasks in Athlone Education Centre on Saturday September 12th 2015 were a huge success.

Large numbers of teachers from many different parts of the country traveled to Athlone to participate in the events facilitated by members of LCANA, all experienced teachers and some experienced examiners of LCA tasks.  Amy Kilcline, PDST addressed the large gathering outlining the supports that are in place for the coming school year

The  feedback from the evaluation forms indicate that participants were very happy with the workshops and the Athlone venue proved very popular. It was noted that having these workshops at the beginning of the school year was an excellent idea as many teachers find themselves anchoring the different tasks having no prior experience of Leaving Certificate Applied.
